SBS Swiss Benevolent Society
of San Francisco

Greetings to All

Members of the Swiss Community in San Francisco founded the Swiss Relief Society in 1886 in order to assist immigrants from Switzerland who had fallen on hard times. In 1901 the Society was incorporated in California as a charitable organization and assumed its present name in 1987. It is not part of any Swiss Government Agency.

Mission

The primary mission of the Society is the support of needy elderly, sick and lonely individuals and families of Swiss descent in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. We provide one-time or ongoing financial assistance as well as companionship, advice and services such as local transportation.

In addition, since 1976, the Society has been helping sons and daughters of Swiss immigrants and descendants pursue a higher education through the award of scholarships. Applicants must meet stringent qualifications.
